2. REPORTED SPEECH WITH INFINITIVE (Câu tường thuật với động từ nguyên mẫu) He/she said that To – Infinitive He/She told me that } Example: “I will help you with your homework”, she said to me → she told me that she would help you with your homework. → she promised to help me with my homework.
3. REPORTED SPEECH WITH INFINITIVE 1. Imperatives ( câu mệnh lệnh hoặc yêu cầu) Tell Somebody (not) to do something Ask} Examples: 1. “ Don’t touch fresh paint on the front door” → she told the children not to touch fresh paint on the front door 2. “ Wear your face masks, please”, said the hostess → the hostess asked the passengers to wear the face masks
4. REPORTED SPEECH WITH INFINITIVE 2. Advise ( Lời khuyên) Advise somebody (not) to do something Example : “ You should have your eyes tested every 6 months, Tom ” said the doctor. → The doctor advised Tom to have his eyes tested every 6 months
5. REPORTED SPEECH WITH INFINITIVE 3. promise ( Lời hứa) Promise (not) to do something Example : “I will help you when you have difficulty”, said my boss → My boss promised to help me when I had difficulty
6. REPORTED SPEECH WITH INFINITIVE 4. Agree ( Đồng ý làm gì) Agree (not) to do something Example “ yes, I’ll do it again”, said Tom → Tom agreed to do it again
7. REPORTED SPEECH WITH INFINITIVE 5. Refuse ( Từ chối làm gì) Refuse (not) to do something Example : “No, I won’t tell you her secret ” said Tom. → Tom refused to tell me her secret
8. REPORTED SPEECH WITH INFINITIVE 6. Allow (Cho phép ai làm gì) Allow somebody (not) to do something Example : “ You can use my phone” said Tom. → Tom allow me to use his phone
9. REPORTED SPEECH WITH INFINITIVE 7. Encourage( Lời khuyên) Encourage somebody (not) to do something Example : “ Go ahead, say what you think” said Tom. → Tom encouraged me to say what I thought
10. REPORTED SPEECH WITH INFINITIVE 8. Invite ( Mời ai làm gì) Invite somebody (not) to do something Example : 1. “ I’d like you to come to my party ” said Tom. → Tom invited me to come to his party 2. “ would you like to go to the movies ” said Tom. → Tom invited me to go to the movies
11. REPORTED SPEECH WITH INFINITIVE 9. Permit ( Cho phép ai làm gì) Permit somebody (not) to do something Example : “ You may speak to the judge” said Tom. → Tom permited/allowed me to speak to the judge
12. REPORTED SPEECH WITH INFINITIVE 10. Order ( Ra lệnh cho ai làm gì) Order somebody (not) to do something Example : “Don’t leave your room again” said Tom → Tom ordered me not to leave my room again
13. REPORTED SPEECH WITH INFINITIVE 11. Warn ( Cảnh báo ai (không) làm gì ) Warn somebody (not) to do something Example : “ Don’t touch the wire with wet hands ” said Tom → Tom warned me not to touch the wire with wet hands

REPORTED SPEECH WITH INFINITIVE ĐỔI TRẠNG TỪ TRONG CÂU TƯỜNG THUẬT • Today > that day • Next week > the week after/ the following week • Tonight > that night • Now > then • Tomorrow > the day after/ the following day • Ago > before • Yesterday > the day before/ the previous day • This > that • These > those • Last week > the week before • Here >there the previous week
15. REPORTED SPEECH WITH INFINITIVE GỢI Ý CÁCH LÀM BÀI Bước 1: Đọc kỹ câu trực tiếp, xác định NGÔI, THÌ và TRẠNG TỪ (để có thay đổi phù hợp). Bước 2: Xác định động từ tường thuật và giới từ theo sau (nếu có) (giới từ có thể theo ngay sau động từ tường thuật hoặc sau túc từ). Bước 3: Xác định động từ cần thêm – TO, đặt túc từ (người/vật được tường thuật) vào sau động từ tường thuật (nếu có). Bước 4: Đặt động từ chính thêm TO hoặc - ING (sau động từ tường thuật hoặc giới từ). Công thức chung khi đổi sang câu tường thuật với INFINITIVE S + V (+ O) + to V
16. REPORTED SPEECH WITH INFINITIVE Exercise 1: Rewrite the following sentences in reported speech with infinitives. 1.“You’d better spend more time learning to write”I said to the boy. I advised the boy to spend more time learning to write. 2. “Would you like to have dinner with us tonight?” Mike said to Linda. Mike invited Linda to have dinner with them that night. 3. “Don’t lean your bicycles against my windows, boys,” said the shopkeeper. The shopkeeper warned boys not to lean their bicycles against his/ her window 4. “Open the safe,” the robber said to the bank clerk. the bank clerk to open the safe. The robber ordered
17. REPORTED SPEECH WITH INFINITIVE Exercise 1: Rewrite the following sentences in reported speech with infinitives. 5. “Leave this space clean, David,” she said. She told David to leave that space clean. 6. “I’ll wait for you. I promise,” he said to me. He promised to wait for me. 7. “I won’t answer any questions,” Paul said Paul agreed not to answer any questions 8. “No, I’m sorry, I won’t work on Saturday,” said Victoria Victoria refused to work on Saturday. 9. “Take that chewing gum out of your mouth immediately!” the teacher said to Tom. The teacher ordered Tom to take that chewing gum out of his mouth immediately
