  3. Although, despite/in spite of We use although, despite / in spite of to express contrast between two pieces of information in the same sentence. We use although before a clause and despite / in spite of before a noun or a noun phrase. Example: a clause Although he is so young, he He is so performs excellently. a phrase young, but Despite / In spite of being so young, = he he performs excellently. performs excellently. Despite / In spite of his young age, he performs excellently.

  8. however and nevertheless We also use however and nevertheless to express contrast between two sentences. We usually use a comma after them. Nevertheless is more formal than however. In informal Example: situation He is so young. However, he performs excellently. In formal situation He is so young. Nevertheless, he performs excellently.
  9. 4. Complete the sentences using although, despite, in spite of, however, or nevertheless. Sometimes, two answers are possible. 1.
