3. Although, despite/in spite of We use although, despite / in spite of to express contrast between two pieces of information in the same sentence. We use although before a clause and despite / in spite of before a noun or a noun phrase. In informal Example: situation He is so young. However, he performs excellently. In formal situation He is so young. Nevertheless, he performs excellently.
