- * And read through the suggestions in the books then answer the questions: 1.How many levels of education are there in Vietnam? -There are three: + Pre – school + Primary education - lower secondary education. + Secondary education - upper secondary education. 2. How many classes are there in each level? - There are 2 classes in pre – school,5 classes in primary education and 7 classes in secondary education. 3. How long does it take to finish the lower secondary education/ upper secondary education? - It takes 4 years to finish the lower secondary education and 5 years to finish the upper secondary education.
- 4. When do children start to go to primary school? - When they are 6 years old. 5. How many weeks are there in the academic year? - There are 35 weeks in the academic year. 6. How many terms are there in a school year ? when are they? - There are 2 terms in a school year. the first term is from 5th September to December, the second term is from January to May. 7. When can students take the national examination for GCSE? - Students can take national examination for GCSE at the end of May or beginning of June.
- Notes. 1. What do you have to write about in this lesson? - About the formal school education system in Vietnam. 2. Do you have to write a paragraph ? -Yes, we do, we have to write a paragraph. 3. How many words do you need to write? - About 150 words.
- * Writing. - Write a paragraph on the formal school education system in Vietnam, based on the questions and answers in Discussion task, in about 150 words.
- * Some useful expressions: -There are three levels of education. + Pre – school + Primary education + Secondary education - lower secondary education. - upper secondary education. - There are 2 classes in pre – school, 5 classes in primary education and 7 classes in secondary education. - It takes 4 years to finish the lower secondary education and 5 years to finish the upper secondary education. - There are 35 weeks in the academic year. - There are 2 terms in a school year. The first term is from 5th September to December, the second term is from January to May. - Students can take national examination for GCSE at the end of May or beginning of June. - Students have a three-month-holiday in summer.
- * The suggested writing There are 3 levels of education in the formal school system in Vietnam: Pre – school, Primary education and Secondary education. The Secondary education consists of lower secondary education and upper secondary education. Primary and lower secondary education are compulsory in Vietnam. Children start going to primary school at the age of 6 and after 5 years they move to lower secondary school where they study for 4 years. The upper secondary education lasts 3 years, when children are from the age of 15 to 17. In order to study at a university, students have to pass the national examination held in early June every year for the GCSE. The academic year lasts 35 weeks within 9 months from September 5th to the end of May. It is divided into 2 terms. The first term is from September to December and the second term is from January to May. Students have a three-month-summer holiday after the second term.
