  1. Warm up: Describe your (close) friend.
  2. 1. Write the correct words on the faces. creative boring funny confident hard-working kind clever talkative sporty shy patient serious Can you remember more words? Add them to the faces.
  3. HAIKU POETRY Pink cherry blossoms Cost shimmering reflections On seas of Japan
  4. "Haiku" comes from Japan. The first and last lines have five syllables. The middle line has seven syllables. The lines don’t need to rhyme. Pink cherry blossoms → 5 syllables Cost shimmering reflections → 7 syllables On seas of Japan → 5 syllables
  5. SAMPLES OF HAIKU A fat bee stings me, Moths go flying by. It hurts very badly but, They are very beautiful, I do not cry though. Fluttering around. Ladybugs arc red, Whitecaps on the bay And have black spots on A broken signboard their wings. banging Experts at flying. In the April wind. The bee flics quickly. Butterflies are cool It turns around and stings me. in the big, huge, green forest. Then falls to the ground. They fly up so high!
  6. 2. Make your own Haiku! Write a three-line Haiku poem to describe yourself. Example My hair is shiny My cheeks are round and rosy This is me. I’m Trang! Swap your Haiku with two friends. Don’t write your name. Let them guess.
  7. 3. Game: Who’s who? In groups, choose a person in your group. Describe their appearance and personality. Let your friends guess. Example: Group: Who is it? A: He’s tall. He has glasses. He’s talkative. He’s creative too. He isn’t shy. B: Is it Minh? A: Yes!/No, try again.
  8. 4. Complete the dialogue. A: What ___are you ___doing tomorrow? B: I’m ___ meeting some friends. We ___are going to Mai’s birthday party. Would you like to come? A: Oh, sorry, I can’t. I ___am playing football. B: No problem, how about Sunday? I ___am ___watching a film at the cinema. A: Sounds great!
  9. 5. Student A looks at the schedule on this page. Student B looks at the schedule on the next page. Example: A: What are you doing tomorrow? B: I’m playing football with my friends./ I’m not doing anything.

  12. Let’s make a class yearbook! 1. Stick a photo/drawing of the friend sitting next to you on a large sheet of paper. 2. Write a short description of your friend. Think about how special he / she is (appearance, personality). 3. Interview your friend to find out about him / her (e.g. interesting facts, hobbies, favourite subjects / teachers / books /movies, what she / he likes/hates, etc). Include these facts in your writing. 4. Decorate the page and bring it to class to make a class yearbook.
