- What did you do yesterday?
- 1) The past simple tense *Form *Usage +) S + V2/Ved To talk- about a finished action in the past. We often say when it happened. - WATCH OUT: Ở thì quá khứ, ngoài những động từ có quy tắc (thêm đuôi –ed) ta còn có những động từ bất quy tắc ( chúng ra cần học thuộc) Sau đây là một số ví dụ về động từ bất quy tắc: Have-had Win-won Was : I/He/She/It + was Eat-ate I was at my home yesterday. (be) -> was /were Were : You/We/They + were They were at my home yesterday.
- Exercise 1. Complete the sentences with did, was, or were. 1. The 2012 Olympic Games were___ held in London. 2. - Who ___was the first man on the Moon? - Neil Armstrong. 3. - I ___was at the gym last Sunday, but I ___did not see you there. - No, I ___was at my aunt’s house. 4. - Did___ you climb Mount Fansipan when you ___were in Sapa? - Yes, I ___did . - Exercise 2. Write the correct form of the verbs to complete the conversation. Nick: Hi there. Sonny: Hello, Nick. Did you have a nice weekend? Nick: Yeah, it (1. be) was___ OK. I (2. not do) didn’t___ do much. I just (3. sit) ___sat at home and (4. watch) watched___ TV. On Saturday afternoon, I (5. go) went___ fishing with my dad. How about you? Sonny: Oh, I (6. have) ___had a good weekend. Nick: Really? What (7. do) ___did you do? Sonny: I (8. visit) ___visited the museum with my family. Then we (9. eat) ___ate at my favourite restaurant. - Exercise 3. Work in groups. Ask and answer questions about last weekend. *Survey: Examples: Ann: Did you have a good weekend? Bi: Oh yes, and I was excited. Ann: Really? What did you do? Bi: I stayed at home, did my homework, help mum with cooking and played chess with my brother.
- Then make a table like this to take notes. Name Yesterday’s activities -Stayed at home -Did the homework 1. Bi -Helped mum with cooking -Played chess 2. 3. Model report: I ask Bi what he did last weekend. He told me that he stayed at home. He did his homework, helped his mum with cooking and played chess with his brother.
- 2) IMPERATIVES (thể mệnh lệnh) Example: It’s chewing gum. Chew it. Don’t swallow it. a) Form: (+) V +) Chew it. (-) Don’t + V -) Don’t swallow it. b) Usage: We use imperatives to tell someone to do something, or to give a direct order.
- Exercise 4. Write sentences to tell your friends Train Put Get Litter Take what to do or not to do. 1. It’s raining. ___Take 2. Please ___don’t 3. It’s late now. your umbrella. ___.litter Please___get up. 4. Exercising is good but 5. It’s cold. ___put on ___don’t train too hard. your coat.
- Exercise 5. Tell your friends what to do and what not to do at the gym. Examples: - Change your clothes. - Don’t talk loudly. Some possible sentences: - Pay your fee first. - Put on your trainers/ sports shoes. - Listen to the instructor carefully. - Don‛t litter. - Don‛t eat or drink at the gym.
