  2. VOCABULARY 1/p.36: GENDER EQUALITY Complete these sentences with suitable words from the box. inequality pay right discrimination gender 1. Women are demanding equal pay for equal work. 2. I think this is a clear case of discrimination against women. 3. Education for all means that everyone has the right to receive education. 4. Gender equality means that both men and women are treated equally. 5. Women in developing countries are fighting against gender inequality .
  3. VOCABULARY 2/p.36: NEW WAYS TO LEARN Choose the correct words in the following sentences. 1. Using an electric / electronic device such as a laptop, you can learn English effectively. 2. To play audio tapes and CDs, you just need a cassette or CD player / recorder. 3. Watching and listening to English radio / television shows is an excellent way to learn English. 4. A tablet / desktop is a mobile computer that is also useful for language learning. 5. Language translation touch screen/ software allows you to translate from one language into another.

People may keep books for two weeks. → Books may be kept for two weeks.
  7. GRAMMAR 5/p.36: COMPARATIVE or SUPERLATIVE Complete these sentences. Use the comparative or superlative form of the adjectives in brackets. Add any other words if necessary. 1. The problem is not so complicated. It’s more simple(SIMPLE)(simpler) than you think. 2. That theatre over there is the(OLD)oldest building in the city. 3. Health and happiness are more(IMPORTANT)important than money. 4. That was the(BEAUTIFUL)most beautiful painting I’ve ever seen. 5. I like the countryside. Living in the countryside is healthier(HEALTHY)(more healthy) and more(PEACEFUL)peaceful than living in a city. S + V + COMPARATIVE + than + noun/pronoun. (2 objects) S + V + the + SUPERLATIVE (3 or more objects)
  8. GRAMMAR RELATIVE CLAUSES RELATIVE CLAUSES give more information about sb. or sth. that precede it in the main clause. A defining one gives detailed and necessary information without which the sentence is incomplete. A non-defining one gives EXTRA information without which the sentence is still complete. It is placed after a comma or between two commas.
  9. GRAMMAR 6/ p.36: RELATIVE CLAUSES Combine each pair of sentences into one with a suitable relative pronoun. Use comma(s) if necessary. → Tom works for a company that/which makes electronic Linda told me her email address, which I wrote on a piece → I don't like people who/that are never on time. → What was the name of the girl whose mobile phone ? → Mr. Brown, who has worked , is retiring next month.
