- UNIT 10 : ECOTOURISM LESSON 2 (P2) : GRAMMAR Conditional sentences type 1 and 2
- I. Conditional sentences Type 1 TYPE IF CLAUSE MAIN CLAUSE 1 (real or If + S + is / am/ are + very (not) will/ may/ might/can(not) + Vo probable) If +S+ Vo/ V(s/es/ ies) If +S+ do/does (not) + V
- I. Conditional sentences Type 1 Examples: - If you have a brthday party , you will get lots of presents. ( probability) - If the weather is warm, we may/might go to the park. ( possibility) - If the weather is warm, you can go to the park. (permission)
- Exercise 1 : Complete the sentences,using the correct forms of the verbs in the box.You can use a modal verb in the main clause if necessary. fail pay go eat get call leave get 1. If Alice leaves for Ha Noi at 3 o’clock, she’ll be there by 10.30. 2. We will/ may/ might not get to school on time if the bus is late again. 3. My parents might be sad if I fail the exam. 4. You will / may/ might get a discount if you pay for the trip in advance. 5. If you pay for an eco tour , part of your money will be used for wildlife protection. 6. - Exercise 2 : Put the verb in brackets in the correct form 1. I (be) ___will be surprised if you (fail) ___thefail exam. You’re working so hard. 2. - Exercise 3 : Match the first part in column A with the second part in column B to complete the unreal conditional sentences (type 2). Put the verbs in brackets in the correct form. A B 1. - Example 1: There are only 24 hours a day . I can’t do many things I want to do If there were more than 24 hours a day , I could do many things I want to do .
- Example 2: Victor doesn’t speak English well. He can’t get a good job => If Victor spoke English well, he could/would get a good job. Change situations into 2nd conditional sentences SITUATION CONDITIONAL SENTENCE At the present Type 2 Affirmtive Negative Negative Affirmative
- Exercise 4 : Read the situations and make conditional sentences. You can use could where possible 1. Nancy doesn’t live near the park. She can’t go running there every morning. => If Nancy lived near the park, she could/ would go running there every morning. 2. Nam can’t swim. He is not allowed to go to the swimming pool alone. => If Nam could swim, he would/could go to the swimming pool alone. 3. Tom doesn’t have a passport. He can’t travel abroad. => If Tom had a passport, he would / could travel abroad. 4. Tourists throw litter in the river.The water is polluted => If tourists didn’t throw litter in the river, the water wouldn’t be polluted
